ILLEGAL TIGER TRAFFICKING AND ANIMAL CRUELTY
AT THE TIGER TEMPLE
A report released by Care for the Wild International identifies the Tiger Temple in Thailand as involved in illegal cross border wildlife exchange and animal cruelty.
Following the worldwide Animal Planet broadcast of a two-part documentary on the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, this facility has become a popular international tourist attraction. The Tiger Temple’s success is based around claims that its tigers have been rescued from poachers and live and roam freely and peacefully amongst the temple’s Buddhist monks. However, prompted by concerns expressed by tourists and volunteer workers, an investigation by CWI has revealed evidence of a number of serious conservation and animal welfare concerns, based on information collected between 2005 and 2008.

SCIENTISTS AND VETERINARIANS OPPOSE TESCO TURTLE SALES
Care for the Wild International together with 27 leading veterinary, scientific and chelonian authorities and professional bodies wrote to Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy urging him to stop selling turtles and bullfrogs in China on conservation and animal welfare grounds.
China’s hunger for turtle meat has sparked an acute extinction crisis. By selling freshwater turtles for food in its Chinese outlets, Tesco is facilitating the demise of these species.
