Care for the Wild International’s work to help rhinos is wide-ranging and is funded by our
rhino adoption scheme and donations from supporters. As with all of our work we aim to make a difference by providing practical help to aid animals in most need.
Projects we are involved with include providing funding for a rhino orphanage run by the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, Africa and fighting poaching in Nepal’s Royal Chitwan National Park.
Black rhinos are critically endangered. Populations plummeted by 97% between 1970 and 1992 to just 2,300 as a result of rampant poaching for their horn which is used in traditional Chinese medicine. Thanks to increased protection and a ban on international trade in rhino horn the population has risen to around 3,100, yet the threats remain.

Care for the Wild International provides sanctuary and long-term care for rescued and
orphaned rhinos in Kenya in conjunction with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Rescued orphans are brought to the Trust’s sanctuary in Nairobi National Park where each one is looked after by a team of dedicated carers. Once at the nursery the orphans have an excellent chance of survival.
Care for the Wild International also works with Wildlife Conservation Nepal to fight rhino poaching in Chitwan National Park, Nepal. This work includes running essential rhino conservation awareness programmes for local communities and gathering intelligence on poaching activities.
So far, we have been extremely successful in our aim. Several poachers and traders have been arrested as a result of Wildlife Conservation Nepal intelligence, some even in possession of rhino horn at the time. An important education campaign began in 2006 which has managed to reach the ears and eyes of thousands of local people – a great step forward for
rhino conservation in Nepal.

Much of the work we do is funded by our rhino adoption scheme which allows people to support these endangered animals. The rest of our work is funded by donations from our supporters.
Our aim is to make a difference and help rhinos wherever they are in need which is why we are fighting to stop poaching in Africa and Asia and the trade of rhino parts all over the world.
Our work with rhinos
is just part of Care for the Wild’s practical work to fight animal cruelty, promote animal welfare, rescue and help animals in need and make a difference!
